A Citrus County man was arrested after bruises were found on a two year old boy from Beverly Hills.

McCommicKevinThe Sheriff’s Office arrested Kevin John McCommic 41, of Hernando Wednesday surrounding allegations of child abuse involving a 2 year old boy.

It was reported to the sheriff’s Department that McCommic struck the victim three or more times on his buttocks area, leaving bruises. The medical exam revealed not only the bruises on the victim’s buttocks, but also injuries consistent with a blow to the head.

The victim’s mother had left him in the care of McCommic for a short time when she went to pick up another child. She reported that upon her return to the residence, McCommic told her that he had to “light up” the victim’s “ass”; He told the mother that the victim had knocked over a mop bucket that was on the floor.

On Wednesday detectives interviewed McCommic. During the course of this interview, the defendant admitted to striking the victim three times over his shorts and a diaper with his hand. The statements made by him indicate that there was sufficient padding to have protected him had the strikes been light.

He initially denied hitting the victim in the face or head, indicating that he would never have hit him in his face. Upon further questioning, the defendant was shown photos of the injuries and then admitted that he did strike the victim in the left side of his head and could not offer a reasonable explanation for his actions. He did tell detectives that he was upset because the victim had knocked over the mop bucket that contained pine sol and had told the victim to go to his room but he did not go.

McCommic was arrested and charged one count of Child abuse that could cause bodily harm and given NO Bail status.
