Citrus County School Closing

Citrus County schools will be closed on Friday, August 22, 2008.

Citrus County is expecting 4 – 8 inches of rainfall over the next three-day period. Winds are expected to be 10-20 mph with possible gusts of up to 45 mph as the rain bands move through the area. The 45 mph wind gusts are expected to start this evening and last through daybreak on Friday morning. No storm surge is expected. Tides are expected to be 1-3 feet above normal. There is a flood watch in effect for Citrus County.

Tropical Storm Fay continues to just meander around the space coast. Currently she is stationary in the Atlantic.
At 800 PM EDT…0000 UTC…the center of Tropical Storm Fay was
located just off the East Coast of central Florida near latitude
29.0 north…longitude 80.3 west about 45 miles…75 km…
east-southeast of Daytona Beach Florida.

Citrus County School Closings

I just received a message from the Superintendent of Schools Sam Himmel about school on Tuesday.

She made the announcement that the school board has decided to close all Citrus County Schools two (2) hours early on Tuesday August 19th.

Citrus County Schools Meet your Teacher/Orientation

Well in case you are like me and don’t usually get a newspaper I have posted the dates and times for most schools in Citrus County that are offering orientation and meet your teacher night.   I do know that some of these schools are offering early check in so there won’t be a long line the night of orientation.  Please check with your child’s school to see if that option is available to you.

Central Ridge Elementary:  PreK through 5th, Thursday August 14th from 4:30pm – 6:30pm.

*Citrus Springs Elementary:  PreK through 5th, Thursday August 14th 4:00pm – 6:00pm.

*Crystal River Primary:  All Grades Thursday August 14th 3:00 – 6:00pm.

*Floral City Elementary:  PreK and 1st through 5th Friday August 15th 10:00am – noon.  Kindergarten 9:30am – 11:00am

*Forest Ridge Elementary:  PreK and Kindergarten Thursday August 14th, 2:30pm.  1st through 5th Thursday August 14th 4:30pm – 5:30pm.

*Hernando Elementary:  PreK and Kindergarten Thursday August 14th 3pm.  Grades 1st through 5th Thursday August 14th 4:00pm – 6:00pm.

*Homosassa Elementary:  All Grades, Thursday August 14th 4:00pm – 6:00pm.

Lecanto  High School:  Freshman and new student orientation. Thursday August 14th 4:30pm – 6:30pm.

Academy of Environmental Science:  New student orientation Thursday August 14th 6:00pm.  CFCC Lecanto Campus multipurpose room.

CREST:  Meet your teacher/orientation. Thursday August 14th 2:00pm – 6:00pm.

Renaissance Center:  Open house Thursday August 14th 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

School Buses Saving Money by Going Green


(ARA) –To help take money out of the gas tank this fall and put it back into the classroom, school districts across the country are switching to propane-fueled buses as a means of coping with swelling diesel costs. And the lesson that families and schools are learning is more than simple economics. While it’s cheaper than gasoline and diesel, propane is also a clean, efficient, domestically produced fuel that reduces harmful emissions and greenhouse gases.
