7:20 pm County News, Site Updates

The Citrus County Network is continuing coverage of the shooting of the suspect in Crystal River this morning.

The Sheriff’s Office still has not released the man’s name as they are still waiting for the next of kin notification. We will bring you more information as it comes in.

A Citrus County spokeswoman released the following statement

Here’s what we’ve got in terms of contact with the suspect prior to the shooting.  We received a call at 9:57 p.m. on Sunday from 1030 SE Hwy 19 in Crystal River regarding a man claiming he missed his bus and who wouldn’t leave the premises.  He was allegedly harassing customers outside of the Race Trac gas station.
We received a second call at around 10:31 p.m. from SE Hwy 19 and SE King’s Bay Dr. in Crystal River regarding a vehicle crash with injuries.  Allegedly, the suspect spoke to deputies at some point at the incident location.
During both incidents, the suspect did not appear to be a danger to himself or others.
Also K9 Officer Mito is reported to be recovering fine after being stabbed by the suspect. Sheriff’s deputies sent Mito to control the subject before he pulled a knife and stabbed Mito.

Do you think that the Sheriff’s department was justified in shooting the man? Couldn’t they have just tazed him instead? What do you think?

It’s true. He did miss his bus. Why didn’t someone help this man?? He was disoriented due to his schizophrenia. You wouldn’t even know he had schizophrenia, though, if you spoke to him. He was in Tampa Hospital for 3 days (they released him – why??) this past week and his twin brother called 911 on Saturday, the 21st, trying to get someone to help him. They told him there was nothing they could do. Now, he’s dead. There was no nicer person. Always a kind word…just at a bad place. He wasn’t lieing…he was on his way from Tampa to New Mexico and got confused and got off at the wrong stop. That’s it.
